Renesans (pronounced “renaissance”) is a four-piece metalcore band formed by Extreme Vocal Institute owner and vocal coach David Benites. Their debut EP “Born from the End” released March 29, 2023 and includes features from Ricky Hoover of Ov Sulfur, Dave Stephens of We Came As Romans and Asher Thomas from Nailed Shut appears on the “secret” seventh track. The EP has gained traction rapidly, passing half a million streams within the first month of release and their single “Witch Hunt” has been in rotation on Sirius XM’s Liquid Metal.
Renesans describe their music as “brutal metalcore”. They draw on the ferocity of energy of early 2000s metalcore and modernize it with influence from all subgenres of metal in one cohesive package. With soul crushing breakdowns and hooky earworm choruses, Renesans offers something for everyone.
Renesans made their live debut on March 30, 2024 with a headliner at a packed Brighton Music Hall in Boston, MA. The set included surprise appearances from several Extreme Vocal Institute clients including Dave Stephens (We Came as Romans), Rex Cox (Uncured), Haley Roughton (Gore.) and Asher Thomas (Nailed Shut MA). They filmed a live music video for “Grown Cold” featuring Dave Stephens at the show.
Renesans enlisted the expertise of producer, mix engineer and writer Justin deBlieck (known for his work with Ice Nine Kills and Motionless In White) and writer Chris Wiseman (Currents, Shadow of Intent) to achieve their easily recognizable sound for “Born from the End”. The record was mastered by Steve Sopchak at Square Up Studios and released independently.
Benites is internationally known for his work as a vocal coach, working with some of the largest artists in metal and touring with bands such as Motionless In White, We Came As Romans, and Fit For A King keeping their vocalists’ voices healthy on the road. He also has worked with artists like Knocked Loose, The Word Alive, The Ghost Inside, Atreyu, Sylosis, Polaris, Ingested and Ov Sulfur in preparation for or in the studio working on their records. He has worked with thousands of students internationally and the love for him is shown by the countless number of fans lining up to speak to him at every show he attends.
Guitarist Dave Dunsire has toured around the world with Angel Vivaldi and The Fine Constant (Sarah Longfield) and works creating media for artists, producers and more and ghost writing for bands. Dunsire joined Renesans in 2022, he and Benites have history touring together for a previous project they had in college.
Bassist Ron Bernhaut and drummer Luke Green joined the band in 2023 after appearing in the “Labor of Hate” music video. Their technical skill and performance abilities fit perfectly with the vision of the band, rounding out the tour-ready lineup.
