Shawn Eckels is an American guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter best known for his electrifying musicianship and years on the road with Andy Frasco & The U.N.. As lead guitarist for the genre-blending powerhouse, Eckels became recognized for his dynamic playing style—equal parts soulful grit, psychedelic exploration, and hard-driving rock and roll—helping define the band’s explosive live sound alongside frontman Andy Frasco.
A relentless performer, Eckels toured extensively across the United States and internationally, contributing to marathon live shows that fused blues, funk, rock, and improvisational jam elements. His guitar work—marked by fluid phrasing, expressive bends, and fearless improvisation—earned him a reputation as a commanding stage presence with both technical firepower and emotional depth.
Beyond his work as a guitarist, Eckels is an accomplished vocalist and songwriter whose music reflects a deep appreciation for classic American roots traditions filtered through a modern rock lens. His songs often explore themes of resilience, reinvention, and the redemptive power of live music.
Now entering a prolific new chapter, Eckels is preparing to release a nearly completed solo album that showcases his full artistic voice. He is also a founding member of Tongue Hammer, a powerhouse rock outfit featuring Eckels alongside Jeff Franca of Thievery Corporation, Robby Peoples, and Stephen “Eski” Edwards. Tongue Hammer’s full-length debut album is also nearing completion.
Both the Shawn Eckels solo release and Tongue Hammer’s debut—along with several additional projects—are slated for release in 2026, marking an ambitious and creatively expansive year ahead for Eckels as he continues to evolve as an artist and songwriter.
