Mushroomhead is an American Heavy Metal / Industrial band from Cleveland, Ohio. Formed in 1993. The band’s music can be described as a synthesis of alternative music, heavy metal, and electro-industrial. In 1993, Mushroomhead originally started as a side project. To differentiate itself from the members’ existing bands and to dispel any misconceptions about the group’s sound and musical content, Mushroomhead used costumes, masks, and pseudonyms.

In 1995, Mushroomhead released a self-financed debut album entitled “Mushroomhead,” on their record label, Filthy Hands Co. (also named Mushroom Co.). Although the line-up saw many changes throughout the 1990s, the band stayed active, steadily releasing music and gaining followers.

In 1996 they released “Superbuick.” In 1999, Mushroomhead released “M3,” which was the final album self-financed and self-released by the band.

In 2001 Mushroomhead released a compilation album titled “XX” on the independent label Eclipse Records. Later in the year, the band signed with major label Universal Records and the compilation was remastered and re-released internationally. The release of the album led Mushroomhead to major national and international tours including Ozzfest 2002 in the U.S. and overseas.

2003 saw the release of “XIII,” their first album of new material for Universal Records. The album produced the single “Sun Doesn’t Rise” which was featured on the “Freddy vs Jason soundtrack.” The album also featured a hidden track, “Crazy,” a song originally performed by Seal. The album debuted at #40 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and sold 400,000 copies worldwide.

In December 2005, the band signed with the pioneering rock label, Megaforce Records (Metallica, Anthrax, Ministry)

“Savior Sorrow” was released in 2006, and debuted at #45 on the Billboard 200 chart. “Simple Survival,” the pre-released single to “Savior Sorrow,” peaked at #39 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

The Fall of  2010, the band released “Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children” and it debuted at #44 on the Billboard charts.  “Your Soul Is Mine,” appeared on the “Saw VI Soundtrack.”

On May 13th, 2014 Mushroomead release their 8th album entitled “The Righteous & The Butterfly”  it is a dedication to original guitarist, J.J. Righteous and the band’s former photographer (and drummer Steve “Skinny” Felton’s wife) Vanessa Solowiow who both passed away too soon. “J.J. was a key member of our band” says Skinny. “He played on the first three records and Vanessa was our photographer and the mother of my children. They were both huge pieces of Mushroomhead and this record is dedicated to them.”

“The Righteous & The Butterfly” marks the return of vocalist J Mann and the debut of new guitaristChurch and bassist Dr. F. “This album damn near wrote itself” proclaims Skinny.  “With J mann’s return, this album is a fresh twist on a familiar vibe. It’s also the first album with Church and Dr. F. They brought in fresh blood while keeping the integrity of the band’s sound and vision intact. This is the 20th year of  Mushroomhead and this album is us getting back to our roots.”
